Para la celebración de su fiesta todos los estudiantes acuden a la eucaristía el día 24 de cada mes, y en el mes de mayo la celebración se realiza con el tradicional desfile de faroles como es tradición del colegio, por las principales calles de la ciudad de Tunja. En el año 1572, el Papa Pío V ordenó que en todo el mundo católico se realizara las letanías de la advocación “María Auxiliadora, rogad por nosotros”. En 1814 el Papa Pío VII, prisionero del general Napoleón, prometió que el día que llegara a Roma, en libertad, lo declararía fiesta de María Auxiliadora. Inesperadamente el pontífice quedó libre y llegó a Roma el 24 de mayo. Desde entonces quedó declarado como día de María Auxiliadora. En 1860 la Santísima Virgen se le aparece a Don Bosco y le dice que quiere ser honrada con el nombre de “Auxiliadora” y le señala el sitio para que construya, en Turín (Italia), un Templo. En 1863 Don Bosco comienza la construcción de la Iglesia en Turín. Todo su capital eran cuarenta céntimos, esa fue la primera paga que hizo al constructor. Cinco años más tarde en 1868, tuvo lugar la consagración del Templo. Hoy, Salesianos y Salesianas, fieles al espíritu de sus fundadores y a través de diversas formas y obras que se llevan entre manos siguen proponiendo como ejemplo, amparo y estímulo en la evangelización de los pueblos el auxilio que viene de Santa María.
